Right, so this weekend is the Lunar New Year celebration in various parts of Asia and abroad. So for those who celebrate it, I wish you all a Happy Lunar New Year. And every year, before we celebrate this traditional festival our households get turned upside down and inside out whether we like it or not due to spring cleaning.
This year, apart from the usual junking of stuff I've been going through my external drives to delete old pictures (car shows, model shoots...) to make way for new ones. And while in the process of clearing some of the pix I came across a very old archive of pix that I have forgotten about.
The start of the mosh, Substation courtyard, 1996
Pogo a go-go, Substation courtyard, 1996
Voiceout, Substation courtyard, 1996
Stomping Ground @ The Red Lantern, 1995
Crowd surfing @ The Red Lantern, 1995
At the Catholic Seminary, 1994Back then I took these pix using black and white film using a full manual SLR camera. The film was often processed in our home's storeroom which was converted into a ghetto darkroom for this purpose (sorry mum for hogging your clothes lines). As for the pix were developed on campus as part of my photojournalism module.
Looking back, I've come to realize that photography has advanced by leaps and bounds since the time I took the pix. The advancement of technology has always been there but I guess I didn't quite see it until I stumbled upon my old archive.
Back then, there was no such thing as a screen mounted on the back of your camera to review your pix so you wouldn't know if the shot you took was good or not; the only way you would have known would be if you knew your camera settings well. And if I remember correctly, those handful of shot I just posted were from about five rolls of film.

Now with digital photography the learning curve is much better as film has made way for digital storage meaning that you could review, delete and retake if your initial picture wasn't well taken. The downside to it is that I've found myself getting lazy by relying on auto focus as well as both aperture and speed priority settings. Hopefully, if time permits this year I should revisit my roots and go back to manual photography to revise my skills.
Thanks for listening to me rant, hope you've enjoyed the pix.
